Once Anna Magnani, a great roman actress of the 60’s, said to her makerup: “be careful, do not cover my wrinkles, it took me twenty years to make them”. Every façade in Rome, especially those in the ancient districts full of history, speaks with these words of wisdom. A beauty that can not be reached with any modern architectural arrangement, a beauty that comes directly from the slow passing of time, and that can not be bought with any coin but life itself.

In these days romans are celebrating a very particular festivity: La festa de noantri.
Translating from roman language: our own party. “our” are the inhabitants of the ancient district of Trastevere, true hearth of the popular soul of Rome.
The “Trasteverini” (those who lives in Trastevere) are very proud of their roots, they hold the real tradition of Rome; a tradition made of folk songs and dirty jokes in roman dialect, red vine and popular dances. Every year in Trastevere takes place this seven-days celebration joined by every true Roman: the statue of the Madonna (the Virgin Mary) of one of the Trastevere’s church, is taken and processioned for the streets and on the Tevere, the river of Rome.
One day of many years ago, after a huge storm, a fisherman found in the Tevere a wooden statue of the Madonna ; she, transported in the near church of Trastevere, was adopted by the inhabitants as protector of fishermen and those who work on the river. She is called by the people the “Madonna fiumarola”, The Madonna of the river.
Rome has its own underground art. Great art. It is a city where the art come from the freedom and the inventive of the people who lived it and interpret its very soul. That art that one day was sustained by rich cardinals and illuminated popes, now grow spontaneously from the minds of boys and girls fed up with a mix of classic formation, images of roman saints and the pop culture of the 80s; these artists suspended between an art made of magnificent paintings of death and resurrection and a world-wide culture of digital art, mixing manga style pictures and modern thematics .
