Michelangelo Merisi called the “Caravaggio” - Amor omnia vincit
Amor omnia vincit, love wins everything. Caravaggio is one of the best artist of the Baroque. His way of painting, so powerful and so cruel, so human and so naturalistic, broke any conception of art of the renaissance. Caravaggio came in Roma from a suburb near Milano, but he is still considered by every roman a true representant of the passion, the cruelty, the beauty, the decadence and the calm that compose the charm of Rome. Here we have a great fortune, if you visit some silent church near the Castel Sant’Angelo you can come across an obscure and astonishing painting by Caravaggio in a lateral niche. Then, looking at that gloomy lights, you suddenly sense why he was a shocking artist but one of the favourite by many Popes and cardinals.
